Meet Dr. Mooney

Thomas F. Mooney, D.D.S., M.D.S.

Dr.jpgDr. Mooney knew at a young age that he wanted to be an orthodontist. While wearing braces as a child, he saw how much fun everyone in the office was having. He also witnessed the positive difference his orthodontist made in the lives of patients, which influenced his decision to go into orthodontics.

Dr. Mooney completed his Bachelor’s degree in Biology and earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree as part of a combined six-year BA/DDS program in the College of Dentistry at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Dr. Mooney completed eight years of education in just five! Upon graduation, he joined the United States Navy Dental Corp as a general dentist. In 2003, he completed orthodontic specialty training and earned a Master’s degree in Dental Science from the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry.

After serving eight years as a general dentist and 10 years as an orthodontist in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Mooney returned to the St. Louis area to open his orthodontic practice in 2012.

Dr. Mooney has extensive experience teaching orthodontics, speaking at dental study clubs and meetings, and working with multi-specialist and multi-dentist teams to treat complex patient needs. He stays on the cutting edge of the latest advancements in orthodontics by by avidly reading the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, attending regular professional meetings and study clubs as well as self-study and collaborating with colleagues. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists.

In his leisure time, Dr. Mooney enjoys participating in Boy Scouts, coaching youth soccer, hiking, reading anything about history and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Nancy, have three children.
